Revinning a car

Postby knate » Tue Jan 26, 2010 9:26 am

I've searched around quite a few forums without much luck on this. I've just finnished rebuilding my old engine and looking at cars to put it into. Theres one or two on trademe that are dereg, but i've not been able to find out what the process of revinning a car is. Now the engine is 'quite' modified, cams, turbo, external eg (plummed back) and will have an ECU tune - is this going to make the revinning process more difficult. Im not planning (at this stage) on Coilovers/arms etc or having seats, so the only modifications will be engine based.

Any help, or helpful places in Auckland would be great. Or if anyone knows of a live plated prefacelift s14 thats in ok condition please let me know :)

I dont know much on this topic but if you call any certification outfit, then they will no doubt be able to answer your questions.

I would say that you should re-vin the car at a vinning station and then get it certified.

Firstly you will need proof of ownership, then proof that it was registered in NZ in the past - the rest is just like a picky warrant I think

A mate went through it recently.
It's gotta be stripped out internally so they can check the cars structure, they'll require new brake rotors and it costs a decent chunk too.

It's the same process new imports go through.
Engineering, doing it once with a dollar. Not four times with two.

Unless it is pre 1991. If it is a 1991 it will depend on the officer.
