Not much advantage in using an S13 head. It would be basicly the same as his U13 head.

If he wants to get more out of it either a GTiR or a VE head would be the way to go.

GTiR is the easyest as it's basicly bolt on. Just need to splice in the loom and re tap the block for the 12mm head bolts. Darryl ran this setup for a few years with good results.

VE head would be better but is slightly more complex. You have to add an external oil feed to the head and wire in an external RPM switch to control the cam switch.

Ultimatly their wont be much differance in peak power output between the two, but for a street car I would go with the VE head as it should offer a broader torque curve. For ultimate Hp I would go for the GTiR head as there are a lot more cam options available.

For a street car forged internals are a waste of money. Stock DET pistons & rods are plenty strong enough for anything up to 450hp. All I would do with the bottom end is get his pistons coated (assuming they are ok), new rings & bearings, replace the rod bolts with ARP and re-co the oil pump. better to spend the money on the head. New set of valves, upgrade cams & springs.

Just get a daughter board fitted to your U13 ECU and use an external trigger for the VVL solinoids.

No need to flow the head, they flow better than a DET head standard.

You cant use the SR20VE block in a 4WD because it will not clear the transfer case. All 4WD SR engines have a narower oil pan to allow for the transfer case to sit behind it. The bellhousing bolt patern is the same.

If you need a new block you must get a 4WD block/engine. U12 DET, U13 DET, RNN14, W10 DET, W11 DET, P10 T4, P11 T4 will all work. Better to get a turbo block though as you will get the piston oil squirters and hopefully some good nick DET pistons & rods.

I don't know much about that camFc, but if it has an adjustable RPM switch then you can use it to switch the VVL.

further to the comments about forged rods and pistons, 450hp is achievable with the right set up on a standard U13 turbo motor.
What sort of power are you aiming for?
Still using polished standard GTIR rods with 600hp and no issues.

Just be careful that you don't blow the gearbox once you start upping the power.
Anybody know the upper limit for power on the U13/GTiR boxes?

An sr20ve will go in the 4wd's. A grinder is required to make it fit though. I will probably be fitting one to another gtir soon.

The 50a 4wd boxes seem to handle AND break at anything from stock power to 400-450hp. Its totally dependent on the condition of the box and  how its driven.
