Head Gaskets

Head Gaskets

Postby NXtacy » Thu Nov 05, 2009 7:07 pm

Ive got a blown head gasket again!! Im shopping around for head gaskets and there are quite a lot of different thickness's. Are there any advantages with going for a thick one or a thin one. Some advice would be appreciated. Cheers guys!

Thicker will reduce the compression ratio, thinner will increase the compression ratio. Not talking huge differences here but if you are blowing gaskets there could be an issue with that.

What boost are you running? Are you skimming the head when you replace the gasket? checked the block isn't warped?
If you want to run boost higher than say ~ 15PSI then think abut going for a thicker gasket - especially if you have skimmed the head a couple of times.

I usually dont run any more than 16psi so I think I will stick with standard thickness.

My next question is, Will it matter if I use a slightly bigger bore gasket? Eg. Use an 88mm gasket when my bore is 86.5mm.
And does anyone have any feedback any brands of head gaskets?
