Wastegate recommendations?

Wastegate recommendations?

Postby NXtacy » Mon Feb 15, 2010 7:05 pm

Im looking for a wastegate at the moment and I have no idea what a good brand is or what to look for in a wastegate. Can anyone enlighten me? I will be using my standard T25g turbo as I am keeping my engine as responsive as I can, but for a bit more top end power I need a bigger wastegate.

Also are there any recommendations when looking for a new exhaust manifold?

stay away from DSR externals as far as S/S manifolds bite the bullet and get a Steampipe one Fabed up Far less hassle for cracking

Those synapse ones sound really good, cheers. What size would I be looking at going? Is bigger better? Wastegates are one area of turbo cars I have no idea about haha

Just stay away from cheap wastegates ($100 - $200 never herd of name brand)

Genuine Tial (beware of cheap coppies)
Genuine HKS (Pretty much a Tial but with HKS on the side)
Synapse (Very good because you don't need a boost controller and no diaphram to wear out)

Size wise, 38 - 40mm will be plenty big enough for what you want to do. The ideal size of wastgate is determined by the size of your turbo and the boost pressure you want to run. Bigger turbo = bigger wastegate. Bigger wastgate = broader boost control but with bigger spikes. Small waste gates allow smoother boost control but are limited in range and can lead to boost creep at high rpm.
